About the Trainers

Jerell Daniels

I began my career in officiating as a member of the Dallas Chapter of Southwest Official Association in September 1975. In 1985, I started officiating with Division I Colleges in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Twelve years later, I then began training and evaluating high school officials.

My career has expanded over the past 44 years in the Dallas Basketball Official Association (DBOA). In 2010-2012, I was an At-Large Representative. During this period, I was chosen to officiate the Girls Regional and State Tournament, and the Boys Play-offs. For the last 34 years, I have evaluated and trained current and new officials at clinics, camps and playoffs.

I have enjoyed the opportunity for 25 years to officiate, Junior College (JUCO) II, III, Conference Tournament and Division I. I spent 19 years with the American Basketball Association (ABA). During this time, I was Supervisor of Officials in Interregional Athletics Conference for 3 years. In addition,  I officiated NCAA Tournament SWAC in 2009, I also officiated the Texas Coaches Girls All-Star game in 2011. Also, I was an Evaluator of the Southern Ladies Clinic and Camps in 2011-2012.

It has been my passion and dedication over the last 30 years to evaluate and train officials to accomplish their goals and objectives. I am presently an active member of the Dallas Basketball Official Association.

Anthony Small

I began my career in 1988 as the Athletic Director at Dallas County Youth Village where I officiated youth basketball. During this time, I embarked upon working with Duncanville Youth League including local recreation leagues.

Then, I joined the Dallas Chapter of Southwest Official Association inn 1990. My career started at the completion of my first year when I was named Top Camper. In 2000, I also began evaluating camps and clinics for the Dallas Basketball Official Association (DBOA).

My experience includes girls' and boys' Regionals and Playoffs. In addition, I was chosen to officiate the Greater Southwest Officials Association from 2000 until 2009. I also officiated the boys Texas High School State Tournament in 2007-2009. I was selected as Co-Camp Director in 2010 with DBOA.

I was elected as the Vice-President of DBOA in 2012-2014 as my career evolved. My duties were Training and Development of new and current officials. Under my leadership during the summer of 2013, we utilized 10 courts to train and evaluate 2 and 3 person officials. This process was not only profitable, but the first occurrence in DBOA history.

During my tenure from 1999-2009 as a NCAA official, I officiated Division II and Division III Leagues. This included the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as, Metro College and Junior College Leagues (JUCO). I was awarded numerous Collegiate playoff games due to my hard work and dedication.

The concept for Next Level Officials Training was started in 2009. It is our desire to train new officials during the off-season. We have been committed to this each spring and summer.
